Is a Shibuya Kart Tour Worth It?

What a 1-hour kart tour through the Scramble Crossing costs and gives you, what the last 350 reviews of two Shibuya tours say, the complaints that repeat, and who should not book one.

Updated November 2026

For a driver with the right permit who wants to go through the Scramble Crossing at the wheel, yes. The Street Kart tour from Maruyama-cho, whose 350 most recent reviews average 4.87, charges US$104 a person for the 1-hour tour (checked November 2026). It is not worth it if your papers are not in order, if anyone in your party is under 18, or if what you want is speed. A Shibuya kart tour is a slow drive in city traffic with a guide in front and a camera on you.

What the money buys

On the Street Kart Experience in Shibuya, from US$104 a person (checked November 2026), you get a 1-hour tour on public roads from Street Kart Shibuya in Maruyama-cho: the Scramble Crossing several times from different directions, Harajuku and Omotesando. The kart, gasoline, an English-speaking guide, a costume, goggles, a raincoat if it rains and the guide’s photos are in the price. Tips and video gear are not.

That is a lot for a 1-hour tour, and one reviewer in July 2026 called it very expensive for what it is. The cheapest 1-hour tour named after Shibuya, BC support Co.,Ltd.'s tour, is US$57 for its 12:00 and 1:30 PM starts, but it starts in Nishi-Shinjuku and its recent reviews are weaker, as below.

What 700 recent reviews say

We read the 350 most recent reviews of two tours. On the Street Kart Experience in Shibuya, read on 7 November 2026 and going back to 23 April, they average 4.87: 325 give five stars and 10 give three or fewer. On BC support Co.,Ltd.'s tour, going back to 8 July, they average 4.63, and 33 give three stars or fewer, 20 of them one star.

Most low ratings carry no text, so the themes below come from the few that do.

  • Kart condition. Four reviews of BC support Co.,Ltd.'s tour, from August to November 2026, describe worn karts: one that could not climb the first small hill by the depot, broken rear-view mirrors and horns, an indicator that had to be pulled up to work, a kart that broke down several times on the road. None of the Street Kart reviews we read complains about the karts; one in June 2026 minded the exhaust from the kart in front.
  • Documents. Two reviews of BC support Co.,Ltd.'s tour, from August and September 2026, are from people who could not drive because of their papers: one with a digital permit, one who booked in Japan and missed the permit rule. A third, from July 2026, says only that the shop “did not allow us to participate”.
  • Service. On the Street Kart tour: a refund refused for a partner who fell ill, a passport handed to the wrong guest and swapped back later, a grumpy owner and poor advice about the insurance. On BC support Co.,Ltd.'s: slow replies to messages, and staff a reviewer called rude over a booking problem.
  • Traffic. A three-star reviewer of BC support Co.,Ltd.'s tour in August 2026 found the roads very busy, with attention on the road rather than the scenery and a lot of stopping and starting at the lights. Another three-star reviewer of the same tour, in October 2026, wrote that the guide ran yellow and red lights and the group followed.

The five-star reviews of the Street Kart tour that we read talk about the guides, the photos and the crossing, by day and at night.

Who should skip it

  • No permit, or the wrong one. Without a 1949 Geneva permit in booklet form, or a JAF translation for a licence from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan, you will not drive, and the shops do not refund. A permit cannot be obtained online while you travel. What happens at the shop has the details.
  • Under 18. The Street Kart tour is not suitable for under-18s, and BC support Co.,Ltd.'s is not suitable for under-17s.
  • Health and body limits. The Street Kart tour is not suitable for pregnant women, people with back problems or mobility impairments, wheelchair users or hearing-impaired people. BC support Co.,Ltd.’s is not for people under 145 cm or over 200 cm, or over 100 kg; Akiba Kart Shibuya's karts take drivers from 150 to 185 cm and under 100 kg.
  • Speed. A reviewer in September 2026 hoped to drive faster, but the traffic did not allow it.
  • Nerves in traffic. You are on a public road among cars and buses. Japan drives on the left, which is one more thing to think about if you are used to the right.

Who it is worth it for

If you hold the right papers, are happy in traffic and want the crossing from the driver’s seat, book the Street Kart tour from Maruyama-cho. It costs more than the tour from Shinjuku, and it starts 0.7 km on foot from the crossing, with the longer cancellation window of the two: free up to 7 days before.

If the evening is the point, several Street Kart reviewers drove at night for the lights, one of them on a 7:30 PM start; one who went in daylight in July 2026 found it cheaper and just as good with a small group.
